Sturdy, Reliable, Barracuda Mountain Bikes

Barracuda mountain bikes are known for their strength. On tough mountain trails or rough terrain the bikes hold their own and can be counted on to deliver a solid firm ride.

Frame Risers

The type of technologies you will encounter on a Barracuda bike include:

Frame Risers

Full Suspension.
Frame: Aluminum.
Fork: Zoom Comfort suspension fork.
Transmission: 21 Speed Shimano w/ Shimano Easy Fire STI Shifters.
Brakes: Powerful Front & Rear V/brakes, Levers with Shimano Easyfire integrated shifters.
Crankset: 42T/32T/22T with alloy crank arms.
Extras: Steel riser bar, Kronos Adjustable quill stem, Kronos Comfort saddle and suspension.

Trends and Styling:

Barracuda mountain bikes are changing quite a bit with the shape of the frame tubes becoming more angular. More aggressive looks and angular frames make the bike look and feel firmer to ride. The ease of gear change is becoming ever more refined with the ability to move in and out of gear with ease using technologies such as Shimano Easy Fire STI Shifters. A nice trend we see is the ability to switch your suspension on and off. What would be even nicer is to have greater control over the suspension - to choose the degree of stiffness at the touch of a button.

Pros:
Sturdy frame
A trusted name and offer quality bikes in the middle price bracket
Lots of new technologies

Cons:
Barracuda mountain bikes might let you down on suspension
Some complain of a stiff ride on some models

What to look for when purchasing:

When buying your bike it will be helpful knowing what to look for when purchasing. First, the bike must fit. Do not get a bike that is too big for you! If you're going to be in the saddle a lot make sure you get a gel seat. If you going to be whizzing around corners and up and down undulating terrain get yourself some Easyfire gear changers. Soft suspension on front and back is useful for difficult terrain but on road surfaces you will enjoy the rigidness of firm suspension much more. Take a look at the tires, if they have a nice curved profile and flat area in the middle these will offer speed on flat surfaces. Being able to turn front fork suspension off from the handlebars rather than leaning over to press a button is a life saver.

Self-Esteem Secret-Get Rid of Your Pride

So many of us were raised thinking that "Pride" was a good thing; we often heard things like "He's a good man, the guys got a lot of pride!" When we are seeking to build our self-esteem on a solid foundation however, we may want to look a little closer at this pride creature.

Frame Risers

Perhaps the most easily recognized sign of low self-esteem is pride. Does that shock you? Pride is a feeling that is derived from things outside us. People who constantly profess their pride in college degrees, addresses, careers, etc. are always comparing themselves to others, and looking at the things they have. Interestingly enough, these people usually don't think too highly of themselves.

Frame Risers

"Is it wrong to be proud of myself?" you may ask. Of course not; listen to that question closely though. There is a big difference in being proud of yourself for earning the degree, and having pride in the degree. Simply knowing that you earned the degree and then feeling good about it is sufficient for the healthy process of feeling proud. Pride however, is not satisfied to remain quiet within; pride needs the fuel from others attention to stay alive.

The glue that holds pride together is that of comparison; you must compare yourself to someone you secretly know will not "measure" as high as you in the category being contrasted.

Self-esteem on the other hand is something that comes from within; you feel good about who you are on the inside, and feel good about your situation at any given point in the journey of achievement. The person with pride will feel good about themselves when they have finally earned their Ph.D. (they think), while the person with a strong self-esteem will feel good about themselves every step of the way. While they may look forward to the benefits of one day having their Ph.D., they are just as comfortable with themselves while working on their associates degree, as the will be when they can finally call themselves Dr.

When we begin to observe this difference in pride and self esteem in others, we'll be better equipped to see this same behavior in ourselves. We will know we are operating from a healthy self-esteem when we are thinking from a mindset of abundance, aren't comparing, aim to give others a boost, and are focused on our inner feelings of being proud of ourselves. Saying hateful things to or about others, making comparisons to other people, and looking for our security in our outer word are all signs that we are functioning from the position of pride.

Awareness is the key that will release us from this mentally constructed jail cell of misery. Stay awake, stay the course, and watch your world change.

What are OFNP, OFNR, OFNG and OFCG? Understanding Fiber Optic Cable Fire Ratings

Just like copper cables, NEC (National Electrical Code) requires indoor fiber optic cables be marked with their fire and smoking ratings. NEC requires all indoor fiber cables be marked correctly and installed properly for its intended use.

Frame Risers

According to NEC, a building's inside area is divided into three types of sections: plenums, risers and general purpose areas.

Frame Risers

:: What is a Plenum area?

A Plenum area is a building space used for air flow or air distribution system. In most buildings, the area above a drop ceiling or under a raised floor is used as the air return (source of air) for the air conditioning. Those drop ceiling and raised floors are also where fiber cables are often installed. If those cables were burning, they would give off toxic fumes and the fumes would be fed to the rest of the building by the air conditioner. As a result, people could be injured even though they are a long way from the fire.

:: What is a Riser area?

A Riser area is a floor opening, shaft or duct that runs vertically through one or more floors

:: What is General Purpose area?

All other area that is not plenum or riser and on the same floor is a general purpose area.

:: Fiber Optic Cable Fire and Smoking Rating Markings

OFNP Cables:

OFNP stands for Optical Fiber Nonconductive Plenum. OFNP cables have fire-resistance and low smoke production characteristics. They can be installed in ducts, plenums and other spaces used for building airflow. This is the highest fire rating fiber cable and no other cable types can be used as substitutes.

OFCP Cables:

OFCP stands for Optical Fiber Conductive Plenum. OFCP cables have the same fire and smoking rating as OFNP cables but they have a conducting armor or central strength member which is usually steel. OFCP cables must be properly grounded at both ends. As a result, OFCP cables can not be installed in the same cable tray or conduit as power cables.

OFNR Cables:

OFNR stands for Optical Fiber Nonconductive Riser. OFNR cables are used in Riser areas which are building vertical shafts or runs from one floor to another floor. OFNR cables can not be installed in plenum areas since they do not have the required fire and smoking rating as Plenum rated cables. OFNP plenum cables can be used as substitutes for OFNR cables.

OFCR Cables:

OFCR stands for Optical Fiber Conductive Riser. OFCR cables have the same fire rating characteristics as OFNR cables but they have conducting armor or central strength member which is usually steel. OFCR cables should also be properly grounded at both ends. OFCP cables can be used as substitutes for OFCR cables. OFCR cables can not be installed in the same cable trays or conduits as power cables.

OFNG Cables:

OFNG stands for Optical Fiber Nonconductive General-Purpose. They are typically used in horizontal cabling, single floor applications. OFNG cables can not be used in plenums or risers. OFNP and OFNR cables both can be used as substitutes for OFNG cables.

OFCG Cables:

OFCG stands for Optical Fiber Conductive General-Purpose. They have the same fire characteristics as OFNG cables but they have conducting armor or central strength members which is typically steel. OFCG cables should be properly grounded at both ends. They should not be installed in the same cable tray or conduits as power cables.

Ten Reasons You Should Own a Custom Chopper

Custom choppers are the Mercedes of motorcycles, and they are as much fun to own as any super-luxury vehicle. I'm certain that when you see a custom chopper, you wish you had one for youself. Here's ten reasons to buy a custom chopper...

Frame Risers

1. FUN! Yes, this is the first and foremost reason. You will have more fun with a custom chopper than just about any other investment you make. Cars are fun, sure, but they simply don't provide the "in the wind" feeling that can only be obtained with a motorcycle and a custom chopper will make people stop and notice - and that's always fun.

Frame Risers

2. Resale value. Just like a car, motorcycles depreciate with time. At least stock motorcycles do. But custom rides and antiques don't - in fact they can appreciate if you continue adding value to your ride. 3. Breaking out of the status quo. Just anyone can own a stock motorcycle. Harley dealers have great stock bikes that anyone who has the money can buy. Newspapers abound with ads for stock motorcycles that are being sold by an owner - often because they want to upgrade and get their first custom chopper. That's the status quo in motorcycles. If you want to break away and stand out in the crowd, a custom chopper will do that for you!

4. Custom choppers are accepted by all motorcycle riders. Have you ever noticed that the Harley riders will accept custom choppers that aren't Harley builds much more easily than they will any other type of motorcycle? It's true, if your bike is a custom chop, even if the drive train is not Harley, the Harley rides will not shun you or make nasty.

5. Your custom chopper can reflect your personality. If you purchase a stock bike, there will be hundreds of thousands of people who have exactly the same scoot as yours. With a custom chopper, you can provide input and customization that reflects who you are.

6. Riding comfort is another reason to customize. By choosing the frame, engine, risers, handle bars, saddle and parts that create your custom chopper, you can create the chop that is most comfortable for YOU, the rider.

7. Pizzazz. You can add as much shiny, eye-blinding chrome as you choose; or you can have as little as you choose. If you want lots of fringe, accessories the custom chop to include fringe all over. If you want a very stark, minimalistic ride, you can have that too! How much pizzazz you add is your choice and only your choice!

8. Head turn factor. You can guarantee, no matter what custom chopper design you settle on, you will turn heads. You can add all the "head turn" factor to you chopper you desire. If you want, you can create something that is drop-dead unique and turn every head you encounter. But if you aren't a glutton for attention, you may choose a more simplistic design.

9. Make it solo. If you get sick and tired of the "can I ride with you?" questions and simply don't want anyone to ride behind you, choose a solo saddle design that provides you an excuse, "my bike only rides one - ME!"

10. Ego. Yes, we all have ego, don't we? That's what makes us what to be different to begin with. And a great ego stroke is riding out of your truly unique, one-of-a-kind custom chopper. Just don't let it go to your head! After all, you still want your friends to love you and ride with you!

    Should Your Retirement Home Floor Plan Include an Extra Room

    I look around the living room in my retirement home, and, lately, I am a little dismayed by its appearance. I did not calculate all the time I would spend inside my home during retirement working from home. I did not realize I might find something to do inside my home during retirement to create this clutter. You see, I have found a second career from my home requiring a space to work in. I am inside more than outside.

    Frame Risers

    I purchased an apartment-style retirement home because that is what I always wanted in retirement--to downsize. But now, unexpectedly, I have found a new line of work and one out of my home. I wish I had an "office" or extra room and one that I can close off when guests come over. Seniors used to think of retirement as a time for downsizing and having as few rooms to take care of as possible. However, times have changed somewhat. Many seniors still work and many from their home. While downsizing is still a good idea for most, it may not be the solution for everyone. After selling a very large home, I wish I had foreseen the need for an extra room in my new one.

    Frame Risers

    The only place for my desk is in the living room. Various items have become sprinkled on the floor around my small desk. I need a larger desk to hold it all. A little while ago I regret I threw out a perfectly good table that I realize now I should have kept to hold all these extra projects. I have purchased 3 bookcases and they are already filled. I need more. I love artwork but have no more wall space left. I have a computer, wonderful lamp, scanner, printer, copier, shredder, office supplies, baskets to hold things, cute boxes from the container store, all full, files, plants, newspapers, magazines, articles, and it goes on and on--and all in my living room. I certainly cannot put it in the guest room. I would have to move it in and out. So I am stuck on where to put it all.

    Every time I have guests, I have to straighten this corner with my desk. I dislike doing that and I do not have the time. I would like a space where I can work and let things be as I please. It is not that I am messy but I realize I have too much stuff for this small space.

    So, now I am longing for a separate room that I can put everything in. I need to be able to shut the door. I need a great view. I need a room I can paint the color I love. I want shutters and palm fronds--a room just for me. If someone sees it, I need for them to appreciate it the way it is. My office paraphernalia just does not go well in the living room.

    Before you retire, you may not be expecting to need an extra room but give it some thought. Think through to what you may need in the future not just what is needed now. A study, a hobby room, a sunny workshop, an alcove--a room for you. Other retirement design considerations are: having at least one bedroom on the first floor, wider doorways, grab bars in the bathroom, and an entry ramp. If you have a room upstairs, lower the risers for an easier climb.

    Retirement is a time of change. You never know what may make your retirement just the way you want it and an extra room might be what's needed.

    Razor Mx350 Electric Dirt Bike Review

    If you get your children into sports now that is fun and exciting they will be more likely to stay off the streets as they get older. Getting them involved in sports will assist in keeping them off drugs and away from criminal activity. Motocross is a great sport for your child to start with. It can be fun and exciting and a great way for your youngster to take out any aggression. The hardest part about getting your child interested in Motocross is getting them comfortable on the motocross bike. The Razor MX350 electric dirt bike is a great bike to start with. It's a great speed for a bike. It's really quick, yet not fast enough to become dangerous. Although recommended for those who are 12 and older, it's so durable and compact that it would be a great bike for ages that are younger too.

    Frame Risers

    The Razor MX 350 Dirt Rocket found in stores is one of the best mini electric dirt bikes you can find. This mini bike offers a very durable frame, but can carry up to 150 pounds. To keep the transfer power best, the bike has 10 inch knobby tires. With a chain driven motor, it gives the ride a quieter feel yet doesn't take away from its power. This also is great so that the bike can go about 14 miles per hour for ten miles without losing its charge. The riser handlebars that this bike sports are great for comfort. The bike is a great beginner bike without having to spend a lot of money on the first gas powered dirt bike. The disadvantage is that it takes eight hours to get a full charge and with a heavier child may run a lot slower. For the price of this bike it's an excellent choice!

    Frame Risers

    With all the customers that purchased this bike only just a few of them were unhappy with it. The positive customer notes the value of the bike is due to the durability of it. Some people wrote how it's a perfect gift for any child and they've purchased them for children that are only 5 years of age. One consumer wrote how excited she was that her child loved riding the bike so much he would do it before and after school. She also mentioned how awesome it is that it's fast enough for her child to enjoy it, but slow enough where she doesn't have to constantly worry while he's using it. A grandfather commented how easy it was to assemble and his grandson has so much fun riding it. He also mentioned that when his older grandchildren attempt to ride it the power diminishes due to the extra weight.

    If you are in search for a good miniature dirt bike that is great for little ones and not too dangerous than the Razor Mx350 Electric Dirt Bike is a great choice. Just remember though, that any additional weight slows down the bike. It's not designed to carry more than one rider at a time. Although "Pocket" racing is so much fun, it can become dangerous to young riders. Helmets and the proper safety gear are highly recommended for all dirt bikes. Although this bike is recommended for ages 12 and older, this can be a great gift for any child as young as seven years of age with adult supervision.

    How to Build Your Own Cornhole Game

    It's been around for centuries, it is believed, and the cornhole game has grown in leaps and bounds in popularity in recent years. Since the mid-nineties, countless families have turned to the once predominantly Midwestern game as a riotous family time and hours of entertainment for children of all ages. Cornhole is rather simple to play, with rules that can vary depending on each family's personal preferences or penchant for competition.

    Frame Risers

    Building your own cornhole boards is quite simple and anyone with even the most remote carpentry skills can produce high quality cornhole boards that they will be proud to show off to family and friends. The playing field can generally be any length that you deem appropriate, depending on whom will be playing it -such as young children who may do best with a closer board or truly competitive adult friends and colleagues who want to be as regulated as possible.

    Frame Risers

    The basic components of cornhole boards is a sheet of plywood and 2x4 boards to frame the sheets. The surface should be wood, as plastic and other components can cause inconsistency in the bounce of the bean bags and therefore create an unfair playing surface. ½" plywood is accepted as the regulation wood for the cornhole board surface. The riser legs should also be made of 2x4 and should rest at a 90 degree angle to the board when opened.

    The board dimensions should be 24 inches by 48 inches long. The hole in the cornhole board should be cut to 6 inches in diameter and centered 9 inches from the back of the board and 12 inches from either side. While the general initial cut will be relatively simple, the hole can pose some challenges for those with less carpentry experience. The best advice would be to measure out and mark a line 9 inches from the back, then measure to dead center from side to side. Once you have this mark, then use a protractor or compass and place the solid metal point on that center mark. Measure out three inches to the pencil of the compass and draw a circle.

    Next, drill a ¾" hole in the center of the circle, then use a jigsaw to cut outward, angling toward the circle and then once you've reached the circle, follow the line around until you have cut out the complete circle.

    Cut 2x4s to support the sheet and affix them using wood glue. Allow the glue time to set, then you're ready to place the rear supports. The proper height of the cornhole boards should be 12 inches. Affix the rear supports using lag bolts and washers so that they can be retracted for easy storage. You can find images of cornhole boards a great benefit when building your own and you may find the different designs that can be found inspiring for creating your own one-of-a-kind board. Once you have completed your board, you can paint it in any color or design that you want.

    Twenty Useful Tips How to Be an Ideal Mother

    Career women under the affectionate shackles of marriage, motherhood as well as a profession, will warm the cockles of her family members by performing the various roles of vivacious wife, lovable mother and poignant worker. To maintain the parity amongst all of these, sometimes it is very painstaking and monotonous. Often they contemplate, what could be the ideal role for mother to her children.

    Frame Risers

    The following twenty tips are very useful to become an ideal mother.

    Frame Risers

    1.Quality time with children:

    Despite busy schedules, a working woman should extend her quality time to her children. If not on a regular basis, sometimes take them to school, attend parents meetings, sit with them during their studies, give company to their dance classes, painting competition, swimming club etc. Children should be in a position to accept the fact that they are not deprived from the company of their mothers. Also buy gifts for them occasionally for which they will be sentient.

    2. Make them self sufficient:

    From the very beginning of the school days, teach them to do their work on their own. For example, let them tie the laces of their shoes, wear their clothes on their own, keep the study bag ready and place the lunch box into the bag. As they grow, teach them to do their work by themselves. Self help is the best help and this should be inculcated in their minds.

    3. Teach mannerism:

    Teach them manners to respect the aged and others. Make them social and watch their behaviour in social gatherings. If they are shy, increase their confidence level so that they mingle with each other, very freely.

    4. Be friendly with them:

    Mothers and children are closely knitted as far as sharing information is concerned. Share thoughts with them, do gossip about your office colleagues and let them share their experience about their teachers and friends with you. Do not indulge yourself in any other activities while sharing the information with your children, because in that case, they will feel neglected and it will get them detached instead of enjoying your company.

    5. Give importance to their opinions:

    It has been seen that for any decisions, whether it is strategically very important or trivial, children are not encouraged to take part into the decision making. This is wrong. Rather, they should be tremendously incited to take part in the decision making. From the very beginning of their childhood, if this is being practiced, then they will be at ease to take decision in their adolescent stages itself and subsequently for remaining period of life. Whether it is for purchasing of a school bag or going to the movie, if they are involved in decision making, they will understand their importance and in the process, they will reciprocate the same.

    6. Teach them to be confident:

    When children fail to achieve a desired performance, try to teach them to take the same in good stride. Whatever may be the situation, how difficult it may be, if one desires, he/she will be definitely successful - this self confidence is to be built up in their mind. Supposedly, if the child failed in the examination, mother is to console, extend support, and tell soothing words, so that he/she overcomes the failure phase. Inform them of the story about Robert Bruce and the spider at equal interval of time so as to make them understand that failure is the pillar of success.

    7. Create self respect feeling to them:

    Teach them to concentrate on this angle. They are to be explained that they are not inferior to anyone. If someone upbraids them for no good reason or to that matter, if some of friends behave rudely, teach them to protest but not to accept on face value, by bowing their heads. Teach them not to perform any work by which they will be degraded in their own eyes.

    8. When needs, you have to be guardian:

    As and when required, punish them but not rudely and harshly. Do not utter any unpleasant words which may demoralize them and dishearten them. If they are punished, they should be well aware about the same. In this way, they will be accustomed for why they are punished. As a result, they will definitely avoid the activity for which the punishment is given to them.

    9. Listen to them very minutely:

    Whenever you are sharing your quality time with them, no matter even it is for a short while, make your all focus on their each and every word with respect to their friends, teachers, what they have done in the school, in the playground etc. Never indulge yourself to listen to them while watching television or when you are in the midst of other works. This way, children will feel that you are not giving any importance to them and they will lose their enthusiasm to share thoughts with you.

    10. Share problems with them:

    Please share your problems with your children, if you face any unpleasant situation in your working environment. For example, if you get chided by your superiors, colleagues get jealous of your promotion, excessive work pressure on certain occasions, unscheduled tasks bestowed on to you etc, just share with them, not vividly but only narrating the abstracts. This way, they will sympathize with you and you will be an ideal support system for them. When they observe that you share your feelings with them, they will also exchange their thoughts to overcome your loneliness.

    11. Praise profusely:

    Do not forget to appreciate your children, if they perform well in extracurricular activities such as sports, dance competitions, and quiz competitions, apart from their education. Make them aware that because of their aptitude, they have performed well even if, the matter is insignificant. Praise them in front of outsiders. In this way, children will be encouraged and their confidence level will be zoomed up. But, the very important thing is to be always remembered that excessive praise should not be showered to make them overconfident. You have to be alert to encourage them so that they can maintain their achievement level to the best of the best of their capabilities.

    12. Keep healthy relation with spouse:

    Do not quarrel or create any scene in front of your children. This may bring a bad precedent. Children are fond of both the parents and they do not like to see the skirmishes. If they find such type of atmosphere in home, they feel themselves unsecured and ultimately become obdurate. If there is any difference in opinions for any matter, settle amicably without the knowledge of children. Healthy and peaceful environment is the most essential factor for their blossom.

    13. Teach them to handle frustration:

    Children may suffer frustrations for many reasons and during that time, they require mothers affection more than any other things. This affectionate role of mother will make them ease. During the childhood, children may have fights with their friends, they may be scolded by teachers in schools, they may not perform well in examination and all these will lead to evaporate the smile of their faces and here your role will be to know the reasons of their sullen faces, give encouragement and find out the solutions so that they become tough mentally.

    14. Express love for children:

    "I love you beta", will be the central message to be always chirped to them, even for the pretty issues. Talk to them sweetly; hug them, plant kisses on their forehead and chicks. By the touches of mothers, mental bonding of children increases. Their mistakes should not be glorified, not to be criticized brazenly so that they become hapless. Contrarily, by smiling, patting on their shoulders, mothers must inform them the reason of their mistakes, give solutions and in this way, children will become more self-confident. While extending your affection or love to children, conditions should not be put. It should be unconditional. For example, children should not be told, "if you become first in examination, then I will gift you a cycle." This is normally done but in love expression, there is no place for stipulation. Children will take it, the other way round. It is to be explained to them that they are very dear and pet to their mothers.

    15. Develop morality:

    From the very childhood, mothers are to ensure the development of sense of the morality. They should be taught not to touch the body of the elders by their legs, show respect to aged, avoid telling lies, not to extend harms to others, do not take things of others without their knowledge. If children commit these mistakes which are against the good morality, explain to them not to do so, of course, with soothing words. Good moralities of the future life will depend how these qualities are built and developed from the early stage of the life.

    16. Do not lose patience:

    While talking to your children or during the time of sharing any types of communications with them, do not lose your patience. You may have to remember that children are far moody than adults. So, if children are not able to understand your communication in the first instance, do not reprimand them, but repeat the entire process by explaining to them slowly and bring confidence level to them that if they are unable to understand, they are free to enquire from you. This is more important for their education point of view. Until that time, they do not understand any subject; explain to them again and again without losing your patience.

    17. Become their support system:

    When children become grown up, your responsibilities do not cease. This is a life long process. Once they become adult, you extend your support and co-operation to them. You have to ensure that you are there, whenever they are in great need of you. You have to make sure from their childhood that in any crisis management, you are always with them.

    18. Time management for self:

    For your own, preserve some time from the jostles and hassles of the daily chores of life. You are in the profession, a mother and top of it, a wife but, after performing all these roles, you must define a time frame even for as low as 30 to 40 minutes on daily basis only for you to get refresh. This time is to be solely utilized for reading any light novels, visiting a beauty parlour for make up, inviting friends for a tea or simply lazing around the house.

    You may also invest your this time schedule in creative work. In this way, you will be rejuvenated and equally your children will be inspired to follow your steps.

    19. Give them proper and required sex education:

    From the childhood, particularly from adolescent stage, give them proper sex education. Do not give any vague replies to their questions because these will make them more prone to unnecessary doubts and your unsatisfied replies will make them more inquisitive gradually. It has been seen that mothers normally avoid answers to their queries about sexual education, make vague replies and simply waffle.

    Mothers need to extend the quality sex education to overcome their curiosity.

    20. Mothers should be role model:

    Children are copy cats. What they see, they learn and so for any of your actions or decisions, please ensure the correct measures from your end. Before preaching, ensure that you are not doing that. For example, if you are a late riser, you cannot tell children the theory of "early to bed, early to rise." If you want to educate them, "to share some things with others", first and foremost, you have to share something with your children so that they can learn from you. If someone visits your home for any help, extend them help through your children. Seeing these, children will follow your steps and consider you as their role model.

    Archery & Bows: Axle-to-Axle, is Longer Really Better?

    In the world of competitive archery, everyone has always said longer axle-to-axle bows are more forgiving. With a lot of the bows getting shorter, I was wondering what makes longer more forgiving. Is this in fact true, let's look at some things to figure out why or why not.

    Frame Risers

    A longer A-to-A bow has more weight further from the pivot point thus making it harder to cant the bow and/or helping it balance better. Maybe even help keep it level during the shot.

    Frame Risers

    Depending on draw length, the longer bow will have less steep string angle. Is this better, is it really an issue if your shooting a release? With most companies developing level nock travel cams, is this an issue? And what makes a 40" bow better than a 38" bow. Can you see a difference in score on a 300, Field, Fita round?

    Todays short axles bows have much longer risers than the majority of older bows. You also have more weight. This should negate the weight and balance issue between long and so called short bows.

    Many people that shoot the shorter bows state that they hold or aim like a long axle bow. I think there are two factors creating this feeling.

    First the parallel limb creates a ridge frame at full draw that is much different than the older style bows with short risers and long limbs.

    Second, the long risers; Some are 25" or more. By having mass weight farther from the pivot point or grip, this gives the shooter the feel and balance of a long axle bow in a much shorter package.

    Another thought is the new shorter limbs. The old bows had short riser and long limbs. Long limbs would mean more flexiblity. To me this means more chance of torquing the bow. The short parallel limbs make it harder to torque because they do not flex as easily. I'm not saying it can't be done, it's just easier to have no torque on the parallel system versus the traditional limbed bows.

    Ten years ago, a 38" bow would have been called extremely short. Yet today we are seeing some very high scores being shot with 38" and less bows. Today the 38" is consider long by many people.

    If a long axle bow is necessary to be accurate, then how is it that Chris White broke a double 70m record shooting a Mathews Switchback. This guy can probably shoot any bow he chooses. Why would he compete with this short bow if a longer bow shoot better? The answer is he wouldn't. Chris White also has a long draw length of greater than 30". Which also would be considered taboo by some on such a short axle bow.

    Tournament scores and records are being broken today with bows the defy the notion that longer is better. Many of the top scores are being recorded on bows that 5 years ago were considered too short to shoot accurately. I think proven scores and new bow technology is forcing people to re-think the longer is better mentality.

    Short Woman Bike Shopping - Bike Hunting Tips for Shorter Riders

    If you're under 5-foot-3 and shopping for a bike, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how many bikes really do fit you. And chances are, one of those bikes is going to reach out and knock you over the head with its styling, its "cool factor," and its general overall suitability. But, just in case the bike that speaks to you the loudest doesn't fit you perfectly the way it sits on the salesroom floor, there are a few simple modifications ("mods") you can keep in mind that just might solve one of two key height-related problems.

    Frame Risers

    Problem 1: You can't "flat-foot" the bike.

    Frame Risers

    In order to have the most and best control over the bike at slow or no speed you should be able to sit in the saddle with the bike pulled upright off the kickstand, knees bent, your feet planted flat on the floor. If you're up on the balls of your feet, or worse, tip-toed, you won't have complete control when you roll up to a stop and put your foot down or when you're straddle-walking the bike backwards out of the garage or into a parking spot.

    Solution: Lowering the bike.

    You can physically lower the bike itself a couple of ways, but they both involve changing the suspension components - namely, the shock absorbers. On most bikes, the shocks are mounted to the frame and to the swingarm. You can purchase a special bracket that will allow you to loosen the mounting bolts, slide the shocks to slide the shock back an inch or so, bringing the frame-with-fender down a bit closer to the tire in the rear, which might be enough to get you flat-footed.

    You could also replace the stock shock absorbers with shorter shocks, bringing things down even further. If you go this route, make sure you don't go so short that the tire is likely to rub on the underside of the fender when the shock is compressed (i.e., you hit a bump, or add a passenger or luggage.)

    If that's still not enough, you can also purchase a kit that lowers the front of the bike by changing the springs inside the fork tubes. Again, make sure you aren't creating a situation where parts of the bike will rub together that weren't intended to do so. Alternate solutions: You might be able to flat-foot the bike just by changing out the seat. A bike with a wide seat will spread your legs farther apart before they head toward the ground. A narrow-profile seat might give you just enough extra room to get you flat-footed. And, if you're just up on the balls of your feet instead of tip-toe, it's possible you could get by just by purchasing boots with a taller heel and sole.

    Problem 2: You can't comfortably reach the handlebars.

    Obviously, being able to reach the handgrips is key to comfortably operating and controlling the bike. From a design stand-point, lots of bikes today have "drag bars" - drag-racing style handlebars that come out in a nearly-straight line from the triple tree, extending left and right but not coming back toward you. These bars can force the shorter rider to hunch forward and reach way out to the right and left, putting body weight on your wrists and causing a burning sensation between the shoulder blades after only a short ride. (Kind of like that old ten-speed you used to ride with the curled-under handlebars - which, not coincidentally, was also originally designed for aerodynamic racing.)

    Solution: Different handlebars, or pullback risers.

    Depending on how far you have to hunch forward, you can try a couple of things here. Pullback risers are little chromey bits you put in between the tree and the bars to bring the bars up and back toward you in inch-increments. Small risers can make a big difference, so ask your dealer to help you determine how much pull-back you need.

    You can also try a different handlebar style altogether. Buckhorn bars (and their next-bigger cousin, mini ape-hangers) bring the hand grips back toward you, and put your hands at an angle on the handgrips so your body sits back a bit and your weight rests on your butt and lower back instead of your wrists. Full ape-hangers will likely raise your arms above shoulder-level, which looks "old-school cool" but might make the upper arms ache. Finally, beach bars form a wide curve back toward the rider - like using half a steering wheel from the city bus. These have a distinct look and bring the grips back toward you, with your hands in a straight position similar to the drag bars (but probably with better weight distribution). Of course, if choosing different bars you'll want to consider the design and look of your bike, too. Beach bars might look hot on a wide cruiser, but they'll likely look out of place on a narrower bike.

    An important caveat here is that adding risers or changing the bars could also mean you'll need longer or shorter clutch control cables and/or brake lines to accommodate the adjusted distance.

    Shorter riders needn't fear the bike-shopping experience. While it's true that making these modifications will change the final price of the bike, it's also true that making a bike fit you perfectly is actually part of the process - and part of the fun!

    How Many Stair Stringers Do I Use?

    I get asked this question a lot, how many stair stringers do I use when building a set of stairs? These questions are actually easy to answer and with a little bit of common sense and the ability to read a tape measure effectively, I should be able to give you a clear explanation that will provide you with the answers that you are looking for.

    Frame Risers

    It's common in the construction industry for roof rafters and floor joist to be 16 inches on center and we can also use this measurement while building a new set of stairs and figuring out how many stringers we actually need to use.

    Frame Risers

    If you have a stairway that's 48 inches wide and you divide your 16 inch on center measurement into 48 inches, you will find that you need to use for stair stringers. If you're stairway is between 30 and 36 inches you will need three stair stringers.

    How many stair stringers you actually need will also be determined by the thickness of your stair treads. If you're going to use a 4 x 12 stair tread, there's a good chance that you would only need one stair stringer at each end of the stairs, if you're stairway is less than 40 inches wide.

    If you're going to use 2 x 12 stair treads, you could space your stringers 24 inches on center. The thickness of the stair tread will affect the amount of stair stringers you actually need, but you can't go wrong with the original 16 inch on center measurement, unless you're going to be using stair treads that are less than 1 inch thick.

    Always check with a building professional first, before building your stairway to verify the amount of stair stringers you will actually need. This article is only meant to give someone a general idea but cannot be used in every situation effectively.

    Do it Yourself - Build a Loft Bed

    A loft bed is simply a bunk bed with just a top bunk and an open space beneath. As the bed is off the ground and makes use of the vertical space in a room, it supplies you with more usable floor space. Since you can put chests, drawers, desks, or anything else you want below. Some individuals even use the space beneath a loft bed as a closet.

    * Drill
    * Ratchet
    * Electric sander
    * Required Materials
    * Plywood piece
    * Screws
    * 2 x 6s
    * 4 x 4s
    * Lag bolts
    * 2-inch thick wood slats
    * 2x4 (optional)
    * Angle brackets

    Instructions

    It is always best to begin with a plan; draw up a sketch of what your loft bed will look like and take out your tape measure to determine the measurements your bed will be. To measure the size of your bed decide whether you want a twin, double or queen sized bed and use the size of the mattress to settle the size the bed frame will have to be. Make the frame an inch wider than the mattress to allow for bedding and then it's time to go out and buy the lumber you will need.

    When you have all the lumber its time to get to work. Use the 2x6 pieces of board to build a box which must fit over the mattress you will be using. Drill holes through the ends of the boards and use a screwdriver to screw the box together. Screw angle brackets onto the inside of each corner to support them. Then place the sheet of plywood over the box to create the bottom of the box. Attach the plywood to the frame with screws spaced 2-feet from each other.

    Cut the 4x4s to match the height you wish your bed to be as they will be the posts of the bed. Set the posts in position and place the box on top of them (you will surely want help for this stage). Drill holes from on top down through the box and into the top of the posts. Next use the ratchet and secure the box to the posts utilizing the lag bolts.

    The bed itself is now done but you still need a ladder to get into it. Make a ladder using the 2-inch thick wood slats, with each slat about 10 inches away from each other. Maintain the slope of the ladder to 60 degrees and finally secure the ladder to the bed using a few screws.

    Use the electric sander to smooth necessary spots like the ladder, and if you wish you can add some stain and varnish as finishing touches.

    Tips and Warnings

    If the bed is not as firm as you would like it to be, use the piece of 2x4 to create a diagonal bracing across the back of the bed (the side that will be beside the wall) for added support.

    It is best to use untreated wood for this project to lessen skin contact with any chemicals used for treatment.
